  • The Senior Manager, Fuel Operations, is responsible for leading and managing fuel infrastructure projects across airports, ensuring optimal efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness throughout each project’s lifecycle. This role is critical in maintaining a seamless interface between the Fuel Operations team and key functions such as customer service, maintenance, real estate, quality assurance, and environmental affairs.

  • The Senior Manager will oversee fueling services contracts and manage fueling operations to meet the organization’s operational needs. By directing the Fuel Operations team, this position ensures appropriate resource allocation, contract compliance, and risk management, driving high standards in fuel operations while supporting overall organizational goals.

  • This role is part of our Fuel team within our Finance division.

What youll do

  • Lead initiatives to expand and improve airport fuel infrastructure to meet growing operational demands. Define strategy and develop detailed business cases for new infrastructure, and aligning projects with future airport growth objectives and financial requirements.
  • Drive discussions with airline consortia and internal management, advocating for project resources and support. Act as the primary point of contact for external entities, including airport authorities, engineering firms, legal advisors, and environmental consultants, to facilitate successful project alignment and execution.
  • Oversee all aspects of fuel infrastructure projects, from planning and design through construction and commissioning, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards. Leverage resources effectively to optimize operational efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Oversee and manage fueling services contracts, including negotiating terms, ensuring compliance, and maintaining strong relationships with vendors for fuel storage and into-plane fueling services. Lead the team to monitor supplier performance against Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to ensure high-quality and reliable service delivery, addressing any issues promptly to maintain operational standards, ensure that contract obligations are met, operational requirements are fulfilled, and performance aligns with company expectations.
  • Lead multiple fuel consortia, selecting and managing service providers to ensure effective operations. Work closely with these providers and consortia members to develop annual budgets, prepare for meetings, and establish cost allocation methods.
  • Oversee budgeting and financial tracking for all fuel service fees, ensuring transparency and control over expenses. Collaborate with Fuel Finance to validate invoices, authorize consortium contracts, and resolve billing issues, providing clear variance explanations to senior management.
  • Support Fuel Management’s relationship with Maintenance, Tech Ops, Accounting, and Airports, promoting adherence to fuel quality, safety standards, and regulatory compliance. Contribute fuel administration insights to the FAA Fuel Manual and Departure Control Manual to maintain industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with Airlines for America Energy Council and the Fuel Technical Team to shape and standardize fueling infrastructure management practices across the industry, contributing to regulatory compliance and industry-wide improvements.

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Accounting, Operations, or other equivalent experience
  • At least 5 years of experience managing fuel operations, including a minimum of 3 years of board-level participation within a major domestic fuel consortium

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • High commitment to quality, patience, and diplomacy, with the ability to navigate complex processes and relationships.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Proven management skills involving multiple departments and/or companies with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
