DRS Company
DRS Naval Power Systems (NPS) a multi-site operation responsible for $350 million of revenue with locations in Milwaukee, WI, Danbury, CT, Fitchburg, MA, and High Ridge, MO with an employee base of approximately 900 employees. NPS is structured into four Lines of Business: Machines, Motors, Nuclear instrumentation and Controls and Marlo Coil focusing on supporting the power and propulsion needs of the U.S. Navy.  We provide engineering, manufacturing and lifetime support of our highly engineered products.

Position Summary
This individuals acts as the Supply Chain functional manager within an Integrated Product Team setting. The Supply Chain Manager reports to the Director of Supply Chain and supervises a team of Buyers responsible for quality, delivery, compliance and cost of procured materials for electro mechanical components, sub-systems and systems of electrical power conversion and power distribution products. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Manage a technical team of at least 10 personnel responsible for quality, delivery, and cost of procured materials          

  • Assist in the development of forecast/requirements, developing and implementing strategy for area of responsibility

  • Enforce company and department policies and procedures

  • Communicate and clarify departmental goals and metrics and monitor and take action as appropriate

  • Coordinate with Engineering and Quality on a team approach to supplier assessments and approval

  • Advise planning, engineering and drafting of item master errors, updates, or omissions in relation to mil-specs or new or obsolete items

  • Advise planning, engineering and contracts of changes in prices or lead times that make and produce cost-prohibitive or lead times detrimental to production cycles

  • Be prepared to address any current or potential parts issues

  • Look for creative ways to improve purchasing ability to make contributions to the company’s goals

  • Improve understanding of purchasing relationship to the over-all company plans and strategy

  • Research and analyze costing information for cost reduction

  • Support, communicate and defend the mission, values and culture of the company

 

Job Requirements:
Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business or engineering and 5+ years of related leadership and management experience in high technology, aerospace or defense industry

  • Team oriented, dynamic problem solver; appreciation for a fast paced environment, ability to shift gears fluidly and wear multiple hats

  • Must possess initiative and self-direction to guide performance in accordance with business goals and objectives.

  • Outstanding communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to successfully interact/influence at all levels of a matrix organization

  • Demonstrated success in managing manpower planning, program reviews, scheduling and budget control

  • Demonstrated knowledge of supply chain management tools and procedures

  • Demonstrated management skills, particularly “influence management” and “conflict resolution”

  • Experience throughout the product lifecycle from New Product Introduction through obsolescence to include: generation of system and subsystem statements of work and subcontracts, strategic supplier selection, risk management, and continuous improvement efforts including implementation for cost reduction and performance improvement efforts

  • Experience in finance, contracting, export regulations, engineering, logistics and manufacturing and demonstrated negotiation skills, problem-solving skills and strong customer interface skills

  • US citizen and meet DRS security standards as imposed by DoD, including the issuance of any necessary security clearance by the US government within a reasonable time after commencement of employment

 
Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience DoD, ITAR, EAR, FAR, DFAR regulations

  • A successful track record in managing complex aerospace/defense supply chain activities
