The Boeing Company is looking for a Transportation Technical & Safety Manager located in Seattle, WA.  This role provides, and manages employees who provide, technical consultation, aircrew instruction, technical documentation and support related to global flight operations, flight safety and accident investigations.  This position interfaces with regulatory agencies around the world and with airlines operating all models of Boeing commercial aircraft. Flight Technical and Safety works closely with various departments within The Boeing Company to ensure our aircraft are operated safely and efficiently in a wide variety of operating environments.  FT&S is the customer interface for flight operations and includes representation on a variety of industry committees.  The group includes numerous former airline pilots with a great deal of operational experience with U.S. and international airlines.  Their combined experience offers a broad-based, global perspective of airline operations.  Our safety pilots are uniquely trained to lead our Flight Operations Support Program and represent Boeing during incident and accident investigations.  Many of our non-pilot team members have extensive military aircrew or general aviation experience.  

Unique to FT&S is our Electronic Checklist (ECL) group. This small group of highly specialized individuals create the electronic checklists for Boeing’s most modern aircraft. This blending of perspectives within FT&S creates a collaborative environment conducive to achieving results that greatly impact the aviation industry.

This position is primarily non-flying but maintains qualification as a pilot on at least one model of Boeing aircraft and requires a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating or equivalent.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Chief Pilot - Flight Technical and Safety to enable a safety, customer, and quality-focused outcome

  • Coordinates and integrates, at an appropriate cadence, with Boeing and external stakeholders

  • Stays abreast of industry and regulatory changes to ensure media developed and promulgated by FT&S is industry-leading

  • Assist Flight Operations, Learning Development, Flight Operations Engineering, BCA, BDS, etc., as required

  • Ensure FT&S training programs are trained to allow FT&S to be industry-leading within our area of influence

  • Supervise all activities relating to FT&S programs, assuring standardization and compliance with all appropriate regulatory and Boeing requirements

  • Direct and promulgate FT&S-authored command media

  • Oversee the scheduling and supervision of FT&S pilots’ currency, as required

  • Represent GE&T at select global industry and regulatory training conferences and committees

  • Responsible for executing projects, implementing policies and procedures and setting operational goals

  • Acquiring resources for projects, providing technical management and leading process improvements

  • Leading/mentoring team of direct reports

  • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management

  • Shape the culture of the team through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors

  • Drive effective diversity, equity, and inclusion practices to build a culture of belonging while actively supporting and executing the company’s D&I initiatives, goals, and commitments

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports

  • Possess a current qualification as a pilot on at least one model of Boeing aircraft

  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating or equivalent

  • Experience leading and/or managing a team

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Airline experience with a focus on Boeing aircraft

  • Bachelor’s degree with an Aviation/Aerospace focus

Relocation:

This position is for 1st shift.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range: $210,000 – $270,000
