As the Cryogenic electric propulsion system technical leader (m/f), you will be part of a multinational team in charge of developing an advanced superconducting and cryogenic powertrain to enable high power electric propulsion systems for aircraft application. It will be composed of a cryogenic DC/DC converter, a superconducting DC network with protections, a cryogenic motor drive, a superconducting electric motor and a cryogenic cooling system developed  in a dynamic and emulating environment with worldwide partners including multiple research institutes, start-ups or larger industrial groups.

This position comes with a CDI-C contract for 3 years, the timeline of the demonstrator.

Responsibilities:

As the cryogenic electric propulsion system technical leader (m/f), you will be in charge of the team designing, justifying, manufacturing and testing cryogenic powertrain. 

You will be in charge of:

  • Managing the main powertrain development milestones: development plan, spec, PDR, CDR, equipment & system TRL…

  • Leading and inspiring a team of highly skilled professionals/experts on daily basis

  • Acting as primary interface between the equipment development team, the aircraft/system architect on one side and the test coordinator on the other side

  • Breaking-down the needs/requirements coming from the aircraft architecture to feed the equipment development team

  • Developing learning strategy and following-up learnings capitalization

  • Supporting Modelling & Simulation strategy

  • Driving the assessment of the main failure modes, the main critical DO160 criteria at powertrain level

  • Supporting the definition and assessment of different propulsion system architecture trade studies

  • Developing and driving the worldwide industrial partnership

  • Liaising with different Airbus engineering organizations to ensure overall technical consistency

  • Reporting status to lead architect/demo and feeding AIRBUS program reviews (TRL, LCSR…)

  • Managing the overall project within internal budget as well as available public funding at European, national and regional level

What you bring

  • Engineering degree or equivalent, PhD, in the field of electrical engineering or similar

  • Experience in engineering needed, capability and willingness to understand technical topics at high level

  • Proven experience in managing powertrain development projects in aerospace or other industries (automotive, naval, etc) and in project / programme management and/or willingness to develop this experience

  • Ability to manage and animate worldwide partners

  • Proven leadership experience of international multidisciplinary team

  • Ability to manage TRL reviews internally and with partners

  • Well-built professional network including industrial players, research institutes, consultants, entrepreneurs

  • It will be appreciated experience 

    • Working experience in applied superconductivity, cryogenics or equivalent is an advantage. 

    • in multidisciplinary technical activities (electrical, mechanical, thermal) from technology, design to prototyping and laboratory testing

  • Negotiation level in English is required with excellent overall communications skills

  • Passionate about exploring new areas, working on equations and quickly implementing innovative ideas and concepts

  • Critical thinker that takes on big challenges to create innovative solutions

  • Impatience with a burning desire to execute rapidly, without compromising neither safety nor ethics nor compliance
