Description:Lockheed Martin Energy is commercializing a new flow battery technology for low-cost, grid-scale energy storage to support renewable energy integration and grid modernization. The flow battery is based on a novel battery chemistry comprising aqueous metal-ligand coordination compounds.
-We are seeking an Applied Electrochemist / Sr. Research Scientist to drive the development and testing of the technology to enable longer battery cycle life at higher efficiency.
-In this exciting role the Applied Electrochemist will have the opportunity to work closely with a team of chemists and chemical engineers in technology development and scaleup.
-The electrochemist will have the opportunity to lead projects that contribute to cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and root cause investigation of battery systems.
-The electrochemist will have the opportunity to use electrochemical modeling to develop understanding of fundamental processes underpinning battery system performance.
-The electrochemist will have the opportunity to design experiments and interpret test results to validate models and improve system designs.
-The electrochemist will have the opportunity to mentor less experienced team members.
-The electrochemist will have the opportunity to attend industry conferences and to keep up-to-date on related industry best practices and technological advancements.
-The ideal candidate will have experience with electrochemical device fabrication, testing, and diagnostics.

The Locale: Andover Massachusetts is a charming suburb of Boston located about 25 miles northwest of that city. Andover is very close to historic Lowell Massachusetts and to Salem, New Hampshire. Andover is within reach of New Hampshire’s White Mountains and awesome ski areas to the north, and the scenic coastal towns of MA and NH which lie about 45 minutes to the east. This scenic colonial region offers lots of New England charm, great schools, shopping, and restaurants. Andover and the region share an impressive past from the early days after the pilgrims arrived in Plymouth to the revolutionary war. Where can you get to from Andover? Andover is about 90 minutes from Cape Cod. Boston is about 30 minutes to the south without traffic. New York City is about 4.5 hours away from Andover. Waterville Valley and other major ski resorts of New Hampshire and Vermont are about 2 to 3 hours to the north. It should be noted that Andover, Massachusetts is approximately 25 miles north of the Boston metropolitan area and offers better access to a wide range of substantially more affordable regions in the area to live. Those regions include Northeastern and North Central Massachusetts, and Southern, New Hampshire.
Basic Qualifications:
BS or BE in chemistry or a field of engineering.
Desired Skills:
PhD in chemical engineering or 4+ years industry experience in electrochemical device development (e.g. batteries, fuel cells, or electrolyzers).

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
