Nature & Scope of Position

This position is primarily a general maintenance carpentry job entailing a wide variety of duties ranging from the repair and replacement of shipping crates to design and construction of parts handling boxes, structural renovations, demolition and resurfacing of ceilings, walls, and floors, door maintenance, and other facility maintenance duties as required.

Position Accountabilities

1. Perform routine building maintenance, new additions and renovations including such duties as repairing, painting all areas within the facility as required.
2. To manufacture/upgrade/make modifications/maintain all part boxes, engine crates covers, shelving units, etc.
3. Maintain an adequate amount of supplies within the carpentry shop to perform routine duties.
4. Design and manufacture new part boxes, part holding fixtures, tables and shelving units for various shop areas.
5. Monitor inventory levels of in-stock engine shipping crates, take required steps to insure sufficient inventory is on hand.
6. Perform all maintenance on carpentry shop equipment.
7. Continually monitor and make suggestions to continuously improve the area you are involved in or other areas of the facility.
8. Monitor and perform maintenance on all facility door locks and latches.
9. Assist with garbage removal when cleaning staff unavailable.
10. Maintain and update crate location database as repairs are completed.
11. Operate forklift for Facilities staff a required and for completion of engine crate repairs/manufacturing and for placement of tables and shelving in shop areas.
12. Install/remove wall hangings throughout building.
13. All other tasks as may be required to ensure departmental efficiency.
14. Model behaviors consistent with good quality, health and safety, and environmental management practices.
15. Willingness to participate in training such as Fall Arrest, Scissor Lift and any additional training deemed necessary for the position.

Qualifications

1. Minimum grade 12 with related post-secondary education or equivalent work experience in the carpentry field is an asset.
2. Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize duties.

Working Environment:

An individual in this capacity must be aware of that the position will involve:

1. Transporting tools and supplies within the facility.
2. Must be willing to walk to various areas throughout the facility throughout the day.
3. There will be a requirement to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) on a regular basis. 
4. Availability for shift work and occasional overtime will be required.
