CFTS - Virtual Reality Developer/Technologist

Launched in 1970 out of British Columbia’s beautiful city of Kelowna, KF has grown to specialize in a wide range of aviation services including maintenance and modifications, cargo operations, military pilot training and aircraft leasing. 

Located just south of the city of Portage la Prairie, Southport is home base for the Contracted Flying Training and Support (CFTS) program, operated by KF since 2005. This state-of-the-art learning environment provides the highest caliber of training and support for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Pilots utilizing simulators and a fleet of 42 aircraft.

Job Overview:

If you’re into MSFS and/or X-Plane and can build content in Unity or Unreal Engine, then we have a place for you. We’re looking for an outstanding Unity/Unreal technologist to join our team in Southport Manitoba and help create and deliver optimized and performant builds on platforms in VR, PC, and mobile. A new and exciting opportunity, the successful candidate will have a critical role in launching innovative, state of the art training technology for the RCAF. 

Responsibilities include:

• Create Content:
  • unique media and serious games using Unity, Unreal, and HTML5
  • modify/adapt aircraft and system configurations in MSFS and/or X-Plane
  • Develop content management applications/scripts using Python, C, and other applicable programming languages
  • Create and edit related user guides and training documentation
• Coordinate with IT regarding configuration management of software and licenses on VR hardware
• 360 video details:
  • Create interactive content using Unity or Unreal Engine
  • Create/Upgrade video content by adding audio and/or graphics
  • Coordinate 3^rd party contracts for audio and graphics
  • Manage lifecycle of videos and the 360 video library.
• VR Software details:
  • Make recommendations regarding employment of software packages in the training role
  • Liaise with software vendors
  • Control software inventory
• Mission Rehearsal Systems details:
  • Liaise with IT, Training Administration, and Simulation Techs regarding hardware/software configuration, control, repair and replacement
  • Oversee all upgrades for software
  • Manage lifecycle path including eventual upgrade to Mixed Reality
• Work with the technical team and pilots to develop serious games

Position Requirements:

• Educational background in gaming, simulation, or related field
• Minimum 3 years’ experience producing builds out of Unity for multiple platforms, including VR
• Have a clear understanding of game and software development terminology and processes
• Proven experience in developing and/or modifying content in HTML5
• Exceptional experience in developing custom data management applications 
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Works and Government Services Enhanced Reliability Clearance 
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Strong documentation skills
• Ability to work within a team while functioning independently
