Position Title: Director of Training and Safety

Primary Operational Objectives:
The Director of Safety is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the safety management systems (SMS) across the entire enterprise, which includes Fargo Jet Center, Premier Jet Center, Exclusive Aircraft Sales, Ice Crystal Engineering, and Weather Modification International.
Reporting to executive leadership, this role ensures the enterprise’s compliance with a wide range of safety regulations and standards (FAA, OSHA, ATF, IS-BAH, ISO), while promoting a strong culture of safety across the organization. The Director of Safety organizes and chairs the enterprise-wide safety committee, establishing safety goals and initiatives. Collaboration with departmental Safety Managers is critical, as each department manages its specific regulatory requirements but relies on the Director of Safety for overarching safety culture, risk management, and coordination across departments.
This position will assess the safety and training needs of the organization, evaluate, develop, design, coordinate, and implement effective methods to ensure effective safety operations in the organization.
This position will serve the enterprise; therefore, travel is required between locations. The Director of Safety is based in Fargo, ND, with responsibilities across Kindred, ND, and Eden Prairie, MN. Traveling to various locations is required to oversee safety operations, conduct audits, and lead safety committee meetings. The role involves a mix of office work and operational oversight in hangars, maintenance facilities, research labs, and field environments.
Essential Job Functions - Training:
- Consults with department managers and supervisors to assess training needs.
- Develops, implements, and delivers training programs for new hires and current team members, or assures training is being conducted according to approved procedures.
- Evaluates trainees for effectiveness of training.
- Reports and maintains training records for each department and attend all audits for:
- Line: NATA, Airlines, Deice, and FJC equipment.
- Maintenance: NATA, FAA, Airlines, and FJC equipment.
- Develops and maintains training materials to be used for reference once training has been completed.
- Monitors and updates current technical publications for research data.
- Implement tools for measuring and reporting training needs and results.
- Continually evaluates training progress and procedures to monitor and analyze course effectiveness and updates curriculum as needed.
- Offer suggestions of how processes, procedures, and the departments overall can improve.
Essential Job Functions - Safety:
- Provide strategic leadership for developing and executing a comprehensive safety program across all departments, including Charter (Part 135), MRO (Part 145), FBO (ISO & IS-BAH), Ice Crystal Engineering (ISO & ATF), other non-regulated departments, and general enterprise safety (OSHA, Fire Code).
- Lead initiatives to promote a strong, initiative-taking safety culture across the organization while understanding that each department has specialized regulatory requirements.
- Safety Management System (SMS) Oversight
- Ensure the SMS is effectively implemented in alignment with FAA Part 5 standards and tailored to meet each department's unique regulatory demands, such as FAA Part 135, FAA Part 145, IS-BAH, ISO, and ATF compliance.
- Coordinate with Departmental Safety Managers to harmonize safety efforts across divisions, despite their individual regulatory structures, fostering a collaborative approach to safety.
- Develops corporate safety programs and objectives, utilizing digital tools to enhance training effectiveness, while coordinating safety training programs
- Create, implement, and manage the corporate Safety Management System (IS BAH).
- Administers enterprise Safety Management System (SMS) for entire organization.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with federal and state safety regulations, through appropriate reporting systems.
- Ensure completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
- Prepare written safety programs and policies.
- Identifies company safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs.
- Schedule and execute internal safety audits and inspections, utilizing checklists and reporting tools to streamline the process.
- Chairs corporate safety committee, facilitating virtual meetings and collaboration for efficient communication and decision making.
- Supports management in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Maintains a corporate safety library (e.g., videos, regulations, reference manuals).
- Promotes safety awareness to team members through digital communication and e-leaning modules.
- Audits practices and records to ensure compliance with company programs and federal and state safety regulations.
- Conducts employee training on applicable safety standards.
- Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations.
- Review of accident and incident reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned, adapting to emerging safety technologies and best practices.
- Oversee the development of emergency response plans that integrate department-specific needs while ensuring an enterprise-wide readiness to oversee incidents.
- Lead enterprise-wide emergency drills and collaborate with local emergency responders to ensure seamless coordination during crises.
