We maintain narrow and wide body, small to large, regional to long-haul aircraft and one of the largest storage and reclamation operations in the world.

Our Safety Management System (SMS) is the formal, top-down, organization-wide approach to managing safety and assuring the effectiveness of safety risk controls. It includes systematic procedures, practices, and policies for the management of safety risk. (FAA Order 8000.369)

 

The EHS Technician will perform daily tasks necessary to maintain a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant workplace in accordance with Ascent Aviation EHS standards and governmental regulatory requirements. The EHS technician is critical to expediting risk mitigation service times, especially those related to employee concerns.

 

This role is part of the Quality Assurance, Environmental, Health, Safety team. This team is focused on monitoring and assessing processes that guide Ascent Aviation Services design, manufacturing, and operations, ensuring environmental health, and safety, product integrity, and continuous improvement processes.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY TECHNICIAN

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Technicians will be responsible for regulatory requirements relating to OSHA, ADEQ, RCRA, EPA, and DOT requirements. Works with management daily to ensure our manufacturing facility can support manufacturing goals while meeting all environmental, health, and safety objectives.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

   Health and Safety

· Perform boots-on-the-ground safety oversight by identifying and correcting workplace hazards and unsafe conditions.

· Monitor employee exposure to job and chemical hazards as regulated by OSHA permissible exposure limits.

· Perform department-specific safety surveys using inspection forms to ensure employees utilize safe work practices such as proper PPE, minimizing trip hazards, wearing fall protection, etc.

· Perform training on motorized elevated work platforms -MEWP (aerial and scissor lifts).

· Perform training on safe forklift operating.

· Perform monthly life safety equipment inspections.

· Performs weekly inspections of emergency eye wash stations.

· Performs weekly inspections of emergency showers.

· Monitors well water treatment system for proper treatment (chlorine system) Environmental.

· Perform tasks related to resource conservation and recovery act (RCRA) regulatory hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal requirements.

· Perform routine inspections and Monitor and manage levels of hazardous waste at each department’s satellite accumulation area.

· Ensure all waste is properly labeled.

· Ensure all waste is properly stored, according to its classification.

· Accurately record and maintain 90-day hazardous waste drum logs, hazardous waste, and necessary supplies.

· Accurately perform all required hazardous waste and hazardous material storage area inspections.

· Assist in waste preparation of shipments.

· Perform routine removal of expired chemicals.

· Perform tasks related to spill response/prevention.

· Perform environmental compliance and due diligence audits.

 

Job Requirements:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

· High school diploma or equivalency certificate

· Basic computer literacy

· Good verbal communication and problem-solving skills

· Detail oriented and self-motivated

· Capable of operating mobile equipment (i.e., forklifts, aerial lifts. Lift trucks, etc.)

 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

· Experience in managing hazardous waste storage and satellite accumulation areas.

· Experience in performing boots-on-the-ground safety oversight.

· Demonstrated a strong propensity for hands-on work and attention to detail in either academic or career pursuits.

· Ability to multi-task, to manage shifting priorities and to follow through on projects with minimal supervision.

· Previous experience in a construction/industrial environment

· Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.

· Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

 

Physical Demands

· Extended periods of walking, stopping, reaching, and bending.

· Equipment Operated: Various size forklifts, 2 ½ Ton flatbed truck, floor jacks, hand dollies, motorized fluid transfer pump, and various hand tools.

· Loading and moving drums

· Manually handling empty and full drums

· Shoveling, sweeping, and bending over to clean up spilled materials

· Routinely walking and conducting inspections

  Potential Hazards.

  Exposure to hazardous materials and heat stress.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Maintain company compliance with Code of Federal Regulations. Specifically, 29 CFR1910.1200 Hazard Communication and 40 CFR Parts 262 & 263, - Hazardous Materials Handling, Storage and Disposal. 49 CFR 171, 172, 173. Ability to read, write and understand the English language.

Education/Training: 16-hour RCRA Initial Certification with annual 8-hour refresher certifications, 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Certification with annual 8-hour refresher certifications, 24-hour Hazardous Materials Transportation, Federal Hazardous Materials Regulation 49 CFR DOT/IATA, Hazardous Waste Site Supervisor.

 

Additional Requirements

· Position occasionally requires the ability to work overtime and weekends when needed

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
