Job Title: EH&S Intern/Co-op Student

Department: Environmental, Health, & Safety

Reports To: EH&S Manager

SUMMARY

The EHS co-op student will be working on job assignments related to their functional Environmental and Health & Safety (EH&S) discipline.

3-month or 6-month opportunity available.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Apply EHS principles learned in school to hands-on situations, such as process EH&S improvements & solutions.
  • Work with the hourly workforce to address day-to-day safety & health concerns, as requested.
  • Recommend material handling & ergonomics solutions to reduce the risk of sprain/strain injuries throughout the facility.
  • Assist in the investigation of all facility accidents & injuries & the development of corrective actions.
  • Perform periodic EH&S inspections, as assigned by the EH&S Group.
  • Document, organize, and maintain up to date EH&S compliance requirements in the EH&S software system & hard filing system.
  • Review and analyze PPE requirements for the various departments and process related functions.
  • Take ownership and responsibility for identified EH&S projects on the manufacturing floor.
  • Assist with environmental improvements, such as waste minimization opportunities.
  • Perform and/or revise job/task safety risk assessments.
  • Other EH&S duties as assigned.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • Knowledge of EH&S practices
  • Manufacturing
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access
  • Good written and verbal communication

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

Full-time student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Environmental, Health, or Safety discipline preferred. Other related fields will also be considered.

Must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Student will spend 60-70 of time in the manufacturing plant. The position may require contact with hazardous chemicals. Minimal travel may be required.

OTHER BENEFITS

This is a 40-hour week position for which Co-ops will be paid for their hours worked. The hourly rate for this position is $25. A housing allowance will be provided if eligibility requirements are met.
