Fiberglass Subassembler  (Full Time)
Department: All Openings, Manufacturing - Entry Level

Fiberglass Subassembler compensation range(based on experience level)$17.50- $26/hr

Fiberglass Subassembler I ($17.50/hr- $19/hr)

Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in the following tasks:

  • Mix and measure correct amount of resin for proper curing and working time.
  • Clean and prepare molds for wet fiberglass layup.
  • Layup cloth by compacting, brushing, rolling the resin to ensure proper fit and the elimination of trapped air.
  • Inspect molded parts for air bubbles, voids, pinholes, cracks, etc. Trim, grind, deburr, and repair as needed.
  • Spray sealer on the molded part, look for any imperfections and rework as necessary.
  • Build less complex parts such as baffles, ribs, glareshields and duct liners.
  • Patch and grind less complex parts such as fairing fin tips and shell assemblies.
  • Assemble less complex parts such panel assemblies, tubes assemblies, wing tips and duct assemblies.
  • Maintain the departments compliance with Piper QAM/QIM and FAA requirements.
  • Rework discrepancies as necessary.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to improve the teams performance including schedule delivery, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions.
  • Partner with senior teammates within career path to receive and share practical knowledge for proper training to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere and maintain all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties as assigned by supervision

Fiberglass Subassembler II ($19/hr-$21/hr)

  • Build complex parts such as A/C ducts, Seminole nose bowls, and glareshields.
  • Patch and grind complex parts such as cockpit headliners, hatshelves, window panels, and radar pods.
  • Assemble complex parts such as blower assemblies, inertial separators, and cowls assemblies.
  • Inspect and buy off own work using Piper inspection certifications, including torque requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to improve the teams performance including reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions.
  • Ability to and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere, maintain and assist teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.

Fiberglass Subassembler III ($22/hr-$24/hr)

  • Build complex and intricate parts including large glareshields, wheel fairings, bonded duct assemblies, wing tips and nosecone assemblies.
  • Conduct training cross training of Team Members to attain acceptable levels of performance.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to improve the teams performance including schedule delivery, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions.
  • Ability to and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, cross-train and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
  • Adhere, maintain, assist and train teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.

Senior Fiberglass Subassembler ($26/hr)

  • Build all complex and intricate assemblies and parts with minimal quality defects at a high productivity rate.
  • Interact with Team Members & Pipers Manufacturing Support Teams as well as vendors, equipment suppliers, etc. when appropriate.
  • Rework major discrepancies as necessary. Performs Material Review Board and Standard repairs when needed. Assist in troubleshooting parts issues with the department or on the assembly lines when needed.
  • Inspect and buying off own and other Team Mates work using Piper inspection certifications.
  • Provide assistance when required during new product development, design, build and testing.
  • Acting as a technical liaison between Team Members & Pipers manufacturing support teams as well as vendors, equipment suppliers, etc. when appropriate.
  • Assist with root cause and corrective action of nonconforming material in order to reduce defects and scrap material.
  • Assist in continuous improvement efforts to enhance the teams performance including reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, productivity improvement initiatives and cost reductions.
  • Interface within the department to resolve quality concerns in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Perform audits of areas within the department as required to maintain compliance with all FAA and Piper operational requirements. Initiate related operational process or procedural corrective action, or request additional assistance from leadership or other support teams where necessary.
  • Serves as lead with the ability to guide and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, cross-train and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity. Request additional assistance from leadership or other support team where necessary.
  • Adhere, maintain, assist and train teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
  • Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Related subassembler experience requirements:

o Fiberglass Subassembler I: 1 year of experience

o Fiberglass Subassembler II: 2 - 3 years of experience

o Fiberglass Subassembler III: 3 - 4 years of experience

o Senior Fiberglass Subassembler: 5 years of experience

Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Use of hand and power tools as required

Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and PPE, including proper fit and use of respirators as required

Follow all safety procedures

Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).

Adhere to Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions
