Flight Dynamics, Modeling and Simulation Intern

Joby Aviation is an seeking passionate and driven intern to join our Modeling and Simulation team for the summer of 2024. This role requires a willingness to learn and develop a range of knowledge and skills that includes executing tests in a flight simulator environment, post-flight analysis, comparison of experimental flight test data to flight dynamics models, and all other tasks related to the development and validation of an eVTOL flight dynamics model. A can-do attitude is a must for this fast-paced environment in which every team member relies on each other to perform to their highest potential. Previous experience with system identification is highly desirable.

• Support the flight dynamics team in a range of technical and administrative roles, including executing and analyzing tests in a flight simulator, and development of a flight data processing pipeline
• Develop and validate dynamic models of aircraft components
• Participate in experimental flight test support functions
• Help develop manuals and supporting documentation as necessary

• Has completed or is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
• Excellent understanding of aircraft stability and control derivatives
• Experience with system identification methods
• Understanding of data fitting and data regression methods
• Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, C++ and Python
• Ability to work in groups and individually
• May - August (flexible)

• Experience correlating and validating flight dynamics models using experimental data
• Deep understanding of linear system analysis
• Graduate student in relevant field
