Job Description:

MISSION:
To assist air and vacuum furnace operators in the casting or master melt process. To take part in the preparation and pouring of castings or ingots as well as associated foundry tasks. Works in one or more of the following accountability areas.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Preparation.
Objective: to take part in the metal, furnace and shell preparation needed to efficiently complete pouring schedules.
Typical Activities:
A. Inspects and delivers metal ingots to furnace areas.
B. Cleans, inspects and weighs shells.
C. Fixtures shells per Tech Cards.
D. Applies exothermic, fiber insulation material to shells.
E. Loads and unloads shells in burnout furnace using hand-held fork, fork lift truck and overhead crane.
F. Selects program on burnout controller for proper preheat cycle.
G. Transports shells to air pouring areas or vacuum furnace.
H. May load melting pots with metals.

2. Pouring Air Casting
Objective: to work with Pourers and Furnace Operators to assure efficient, accurate pouring of castings and ingots (LSBO only).
Typical Activities:
A. Inspects and prepares pouring ladles.
B. Shanks on ladle to properly position ladle during pouring.
C. Puts insulating material on casting top to maintain molten status.
D. Delivers castings to cleaning or repair departments.
E. Sets up and operates mold racks.
F. Knocks ingots from molds; cleans, cuts and welds ingots.

3. Vacuum Furnace Operations
Objective: to work in team with Furnace Operators to assure efficient, accurate pouring of castings and ingots (LSBO only).
Typical Activities:
A. Inspects, sets up and operates MM mold racks.
B. Runs conveyor system to transport shells to Master Caster furnace.
C. Observes shell casting process via window and or video.
D. Knocks MM ingots from molds; cleans, cuts and welds.
E. Removes and transports vacuum castings.
F. Puts insulating material on top of casting to maintain molten status.
G. Delivers castings to cleaning or repair departments.

4. Maintenance.
Objective: to clean furnaces and maintain foundry areas.
Typical Activities:
A. Provides minor maintenance and troubleshoots equipment problems.
B. Cleans furnaces, burnout ovens, air pouring areas and supporting equipment.
C. Installs refractory lining in vacuum furnaces.

5. Safety.
Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.
NOTE: for job positions that require respiratory protection (more than a filtering face piece dust mask):
In compliance with the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division Personal Protective Equipment standard for Respiratory Protection, OAR 437, Div. 2 I 1910.134 and Oregon Health Division Rules for the Control of Radiation, OAR 333. Div. 120 333 120 300 through 330, certain tasks within this job position require may require the use of a NIOSH approved respirator. An individual will not be assigned to these tasks if the person is not able to work under these conditions. Respirator selection will be based on the work performed, exposure information, duration of use and any other relevant factors. If a tight fitting respirator is required, facial hair, temple pieces on glasses or other items that interferes with the face-to-face piece seal of the respirator are not permitted.
Typical Activities:
A. Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
B. Safely operates all equipment and tools.
C. Identifies and reports safety problems.

6. Performs other tasks as assigned.


TRAINING:
1. Training is provided on the job.
2. PCCs Fork Lift Driving Safety Certification Training must be completed.


ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Previous experience as a Foundry Helper preferred (at LSBO only).
2. Ability to follow instructions, read, write and perform arithmetic calculations.
3. Ability to lift and or maneuver objects weighing thirty to fifty pounds and occasionally up to one hundred and twenty pounds.
4. Ability to work as a team member.
5. Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes, molten metal and other elements for extended periods of time.


MAJOR PLANT DIFFERENCES:

1. LSBO prefers previous experience with overhead cranes hoists.
