Laboratory Technician

Decatur, AL

Contract Position

We have a 28 year history staffing for meaningful companies highlighted through the care for each of our employees and our clients missions.This position is a part of a world-class sustainable chemical company making great products for society.Offering a wide range of petrochemicals products, the group of products are Feedstock, PET, Packaging, Fibers and Recycled products.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze process samples; operates and maintains laboratory instruments.
  • Analyze process samples
    • Pick up samples from operating units
    • Test samples using specified instruments and method
    • Enter sample results into reporting system
    • Prioritize sample requests
    • Plot graphs for X-ray and WWT
    • Operate laboratory instruments and equipment
    • Run instrument standards
    • Perform minor maintenance on laboratory equipment
    • Prepare reagents
    • Assist R&D with special projects
    • Identify and respond to nonconforming product
    • Assist in training lab technicians
    • Respond to customer inquiries
  • Performs administrative duties
    • Review end-of-shift reports
    • Retrieve electronic COAs and forward on request
    • Maintain downgrades and split lot files
    • Issue daily lot summary
    • File sample results
    • Verify that time is entered accurately
    • Provide input for peer evaluations
    • Make entries in unit logs
    • Submit proposed procedure changes to shift leader
  • Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
    • Maintain a clean and well organized work area
    • Attend meetings as required
    • Attend training as required
    • Complie with all HSSE programs, policies and procedures
    • Perform special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned
  • Calibration
    • Maintain and associated records
    • Troubleshoot analytical problems-distinguishes betweeen sample prep issues and instrument malfunction
    • Write, review, and update calibration procedures
    • Interact with R&D to troubleshoot NIR performance
    • Order instrument parts as required; coordinate shipping with manufacturer
    • Perform routine maintenance on instruments, maintain documentation
    • Prepare instruments for shipping offsite for repairs
    • Respond to wet lab maintenance requests
    • Resolve stockroom issues
    • Assist wet lab staff with analyses
    • Consult engineers regarding instrument application
    • and related analyses
    • Train technicians in calibration procedures
  • Waste Water Treatment
    • Analyzes waste treatment samples
    • Analyse unit water samples, documents analyses and forward results to units
    • Analyze special environmental samples, maintain related logs
    • Analyze unit vent gas samples, reports results
    • Analyze spill materials, documents and archives records
    • Segregate sample waste, labels for proper disposal
    • Assist in training technician to perform enviromentalanalyses and interpret resultsPrepares reagents as required
    • Maintain instrument calibration schedules
    • Assure proper operation of all laboratory instruments.
    • Calibrate and operate laboratory instruments
    • Run instrument standards
    • Perform minor maintenance on laboratory equipment
    • Prepare reagents as required
    • Assist Wet Lab technicians with unit analyses
    • Prioritize samples according to unit criticality
    • Write, review and update laboratory procedures
    • Monitor lab chemicals and supplies inventory
    • Interact with HSSE staff regarding limits per operating unit

Qualifications:

  • Two years post-secondary education in a science discipline with basic chemistry or equivalent experience
  • Effective oral and written communications skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic PC skills
