Position Summary:

 

The Managing Director, Technical Services reports to the Vice President Technical Operations and has the overall responsibility and authority for aircraft configuration control, engineering and reliability support to maintenance operations, maintenance program development, quality assurance functions, planning of maintenance tasks and scheduling to ensure requirements are accomplished in a timely manner, and management of the JetBlue fleet to technical standards meeting JetBlue Airways maintenance requirements.

 

The Managing Director has a vital role in providing strategic leadership to the organization. They are accountable for creating, communicating, implementing, and executing Tech Ops strategies to align and achieve the Tech Ops and JetBlue goal and become an industry leading Technical Operations organization.

 

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Identify, advocate, and recall JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS), Safety Policy, Security Policy and behavioral standards      
  • Ensure Operations are conducted in accordance with conditions and restrictions of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC), and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards of the Operator
  • Strategic oversight and lead processes and programs necessary to ensure JetBlue provides industry leading controls for its operations and aircraft maintenance
  • Ensure strict and timely compliance with all local and international regulatory requirements, as well as JetBlue’s established policies and procedures
  • Supports the development and maintenance of the Technical Services budget; partner with Finance Divisional Controller to ensure budget compliance and ensure budget targets are consistently delivered
  • Support continuous assessment of the reliability and technical performance of business partners and take necessary measures to address issues
  • Responsible for ensuring all required maintenance items are effectively planned, scheduled and issued within time limits specified in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved maintenance schedule
  • Responsible for maintenance record keeping and compliance recording functions as required by 14 CFR 121.380
  • Responsible for JetBlue’s quality and inspection programs, to include Required Inspection Item (RII)
  • Drives results and sets the technical and safety standards while providing strong leadership and technical support
  • Responsible for overall oversight of the Inflight Entertainment & Connectivity (IFE & C) reliability of all systems on all fleets, and the business partner relationship
  • Ensure the Continuing Analysis and Surveillance System (CASS) meets quality standards and is consistently achieved for airworthiness of the fleet
  • Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, and goal achievement
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Experience and Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma
  • Seven (7) years of industry experience
  • Five (5) years of management experience
  • Proficient understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations, specifically Parts 25, 121 and 91
  • Currently in possession of a valid Passport with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
  • Available for overnight travel (50)
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge
  • Depending on location, may need to acquire and maintain a United States Customs Clearance
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Aviation Management, Operations Management, Business Administration or aviation related curriculum
  • Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certificate
  • Experience leading a large and multi department TechOps work group
  • Ability to work in a team environment, under pressure, in a demanding, and fast-paced operation
  • Accountable and results driven
  • Previous experience working on cross-functional teams
  • Experience managing a large budget (i.e., >$100MM USD)

 

Crewmember Expectations:

 

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft
  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun
  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System
  • Promote JetBlue’s 1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy and behavioral standards
  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Safety Action Report (SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls 
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities

Compensation: 

 

  • The base pay range for this position is between $165,000.00 and $259,100.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
