What youll do

  • Develops actionable holistic communications strategies with the goal of improving American’s reputation among customers, team members, media, and influencers
  • Spearheads our commercial communications work and planning processes across earned and paid channels
  • Provides strategic advice to senior leadership team on storytelling and media
  • Leverages the Company’s existing media and third-party influential relationships to enhance relationships
  • Identifies, shapes, and pitches proactive company stories that reinforce key business strategies and results
  • Manages a combination of traditional and digital communications channels
  • Establishes and maintains successful partnerships with other leaders and teams from across the airline, including marketing, brand, loyalty, premium experience, and customer experience
  • Serves as a company spokesperson
  • Engages in ongoing engagements with reporters, including pitching stories and responding to incoming inquiries

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience/training

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • 10 years of leadership experience, including social media, internal communications, media relations and marketing; 12 to 15 years preferred

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Extensive professional experience in communications planning and media relations for a major corporation
  • Extensive storytelling experience
  • History of strong, caring leadership and developing team members
  • Extensive experience mitigating a diverse mix of high-visibility crises and issues management scenarios
  • Creative thinker who is solutions and results-oriented with a passion for the airline industry
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, demonstrated through experience developing and growing internal, external, and cross-functional relationships
  • Ability to build consensus and influence others through outstanding interpersonal skills, collaboration, and negotiation skills
  • Impeccable project planning and organizational skills, with ability to effectively and simultaneously manage multiple large projects within tight deadlines and maintain attention to detail
  • Ability to remain calm and maintain poise in difficult/stressful situations
  • Ability to adapt and respond quickly to changing landscapes and to work well under pressure and deadlines
  • Ability to exercise sound business judgment and handle confidential information with sensitivity
  • Ability to distill complex messages into simple, relevant, and meaningful communications which can be distributed to a geographically dispersed audience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to effectively and clearly communicate a strategic vision; ability explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to travel
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software

This position is based fulltime in the office in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.
