Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to work in our Purchasing Agent role.  

What You Will Do:
  • Interact with Supervisor and/or Charge Hand by communicating and receiving instruction in the transition of the workflow and to assess current material needs and/or address any problems accordingly.
  • Discuss with Department Supervisor/personnel and/or as required, the Health and Safety Officer (i.e. PPE) the appropriate application of purchased items to determine the most cost-effective means of purchasing.
  • Review drawings, customers’ specification, planning orders, etc. to determine the required quantity and quality of material.
  • Receive and action Manufacturing Resources Planning (MRP) messages.
  • Obtain quotes, while considering the best source for cost, quality and delivery.
  • Purchase items from approved vendors and suppliers by looking up prices from multiple vendors/suppliers to find the highest-quality items for the lowest price.
  • Process and/or raise purchase orders.
  • Update digital files as needed to record purchased made, follow-up re-ordering, etc. and all other relevant information.
  • Follow-up on ‘open’ purchase orders to ensure that the purchase/delivery schedule and quoted price have been met.
  • Resolve purchased parts and/or material discrepancies and ensure Suppliers take correction action.
  • Ensure purchasing catalog is updated on a regular basis.
What You Will Bring:
  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma;
  • Minimum 5-year experience in purchasing Role;
  • Completion of SCMP or Plog designation certification courses, preferred;
  • Advanced understanding of ERP systems, J.D. Edwards preferred
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of computers and relevant software;
  • Excellent ability in the use of Excel
  • Must be eligible to meet the requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and the Canadian Security Clearances;
  • Must be able to work co-operatively with others and follow directives precisely; 
  • Knowledge of processes, products and equipment will be considered an asset;
  • Must respect safety precautions.
