Job Responsibilities:

Honeywell FM&T Science and Engineering Laboratory - Materials (SEL-M) is seeking an R&D Scientist with a background in Organic Chemistry for our Polymer and Organic Group. This role will provide support and leadership to perform a variety of advanced chemical tests, processes, and procedures to support production and research and development.

The successful candidate will also:

  • Lead and participate in studies that may include designing, synthesizing, characterizing, and developing materials of interest to defense research and development.
  • Use working knowledge of novel manufacturing techniques, including but not limited to flow chemistry, continuous or batch synthesis.
  • Leverage their understanding of chemistry, materials science, and analytical testing techniques to  provide support on production related issues; working with internal and external partners to ensure compliance with quality requirements.
  • Lead teams of researchers to identify problems and solutions, draft test plans, obtain funding, and execute work in alignment with the companys commitments and strategic objectives.
  • Enhance the capabilities of an ongoing research and development program, within a multi-  disciplinary organization dedicated to advanced materials studies by leveraging an in-depth understanding of materials science.
  • Need to have a strong customer-service focus and the ability to communicate effectively with customers who have limited knowledge of chemistry or materials science.
  • Have a willingness to work either as an independent investigator or as a member of a multi- disciplinary cross-functional team, depending on the nature of the situation.
  • The ability to generate accurate and precise analytical data, interpret data, prepare formal reports and make formal presentations of results, conclusions and recommendations.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure adherence to requirements.

 

Must Have:

  • US citizenship, needed in order to obtain and maintain required US Dept. of Energy ""Q""-level security clearance
  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry or Physics, or equivalent
  • Two or more years of relevant experience in analytical, scientific or related technical activities

 

We Value:

Experience with various materials synthesis, processing, and characterization techniques. These include familiarity with wet chemistry, bench chemistry, analytical testing methods (HPLC, IR, etc.).

  • Experience in a production support role.
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision on all job responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and responsibilities concurrently.
  • Ability to generate accurate and precise analytical data that may be used in formal reports or presentations or for quality acceptance of components utilized in national defense.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • All employees must work in a safe manner in accordance with the Laboratory Health and Safety Program.
  • Masters Degree (M.S.) or Doctorate (PhD) in Organic Chemistry or equivalent from an accredited institution.
