Job Description SummarySystems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs.
The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.
Responsible for Safety Management System focused to Design Organization (DOA)
Owns/influences budgets and operating plans. The role is guided by operating policy. Works with cross functional teams. The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).
The role has autonomy within the operational area and may have a major impact on a small business unit or Family within a Function or P&L. High levels of evaluative judgment and operational acumen are required to achieve outcomes.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the theory, design, development and practical implementation of safety management methodologies and techniques. Execute a process to identify and mitigate safety risks to an acceptable level; conduct rigorous safety risk assessments, hazard evaluations, utilize human factors principles to drive improvements in order to eliminate human error in the operation and maintenance
- Develop work processes and specifications related to Processes / Safety Management System (SMS);
- Developing expertise in own function. May include roles that are experts in their discipline, providing professional or thought leadership . Influences policy and ensures delivery within area of responsibility, linking with other parts of the organization.
- Leading / coaching teams and training as an authority on technical matters relating to SMS;
- Organize, lead, and perform regular SMS risk assessments in interdisciplinary teams (Ensure consistency between product lines)
- Coach and mentor engineering / production / maintenance teams in Part 21 / 145 / 147 and other legal requirements
- Develop and document SMS concepts & culture
- Attend change management meetings and deduce actions
- Support regular report outs with the leadership team
- Advise on legal and normative requirements
- Research (and stay current) of relevant standards, regulations, and directives
- Interprets internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products or processes. Utilizes understanding of industry trends to inform decision making process.
- Work with remote team members from a diverse array of disciplines to utilizing a strong attention to detail to complete project work without direct, day-to-day supervision
- Participate in industrial working and policy groups
- Communication with relevant Authorities.
- May lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Presents business or technical discipline solutions to leaders. Communicates complex messages and negotiates mainly internally with others to adopt a different point of view. Influences peers to take action and may negotiate with external partners, vendors, or customers.
Required Qualifications
- This role requires significant experience in the Engineering/Technology & Product Safety. Knowledge level is comparable to a Masters degree from an accredited university or college ( or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
