Job Summary

The Senior Corporate & Transactions Attorney invests in our Purpose by providing excellent legal counsel, negotiating complex agreements, and representing Southwest externally. This role primarily supports the Fleet Transactions and Treasury Departments, assisting with transactions necessary to support our fleet of aircraft and engines. The Senior Corporate & Transactions Attorney is detail oriented and a skilled communicator who looks forward to making a meaningful impact on the future of Southwest Airlines.

This role is a hybrid position based out of our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, which requires Employees to work onsite on our Corporate Campus at least three days a week. The Department designates the specific three days of the week Employees must work on-site.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of complex commercial agreements
  • Analyze and interpret existing Company agreements to provide advanced legal advice and guidance
  • Provide advanced legal counsel and guidance regarding applicable laws, regulations, and policies to multiple departments within the Company
  • Collaborate with legal department colleagues on a variety of legal, regulatory and policy issues
  • Provide legal support and advice to support compliance with the Companys corporate policies
  • Strategically manage outside counsel and budgets
  • Perform other duties requiring legal research and analysis and/or negotiations as may be requested
  • May supervise and evaluate one or more attorneys and/or legal staff within a specified practice area
  • May be required to perform other job duties as directed by Employee&39;s Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proven legal expertise, ability and willingness to gain additional expertise and perform work in new areas of the law
  • Skilled in written and oral communication, ability to work effectively with all levels of Southwest Employees, Southwest executives, clients, outside counsel, vendors, and others
  • Skilled in interpersonal relationships, ability to work well with others as part of a team
  • Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Skilled in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Skilled in considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate course of action
  • Ability to be proactive, have excellent organizational skills, and lead and perform efficiently and effectively on multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • Ability to perform well under pressure
  • Ability to exercise judgment sufficient to handle and resolve issues related to sensitive and confidential legal matters
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Bachelors Degree
  • Required: Law degree from accredited school

Experience
  • Advanced level experience, highest level of knowledge as a licensed practicing attorney with a practice focus on corporate law and commercial transactions

Licensing/Certification
  • Must be a current member in good standing of a bar association

Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from work station/desk/office area for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be willing to travel when required for the job
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule to include non-business days and hours as needed to meet client needs

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $187,000 per year to $202,500 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
