Job Summary

The Senior Sustainable Fuels Consultant delivers on our Purpose by owning the development, execution, and evolution of Southwests sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) strategy and goals. This role focuses on vetting SAF opportunities, negotiating SAF offtakes, and owning SAF relationships. The Senior Sustainable Fuels Consultant is a strong communicator who looks forward to being part of meaningful and impactful initiatives at Southwest.

Responsibilities
  • Drive sustainable fuel opportunities to achieve Southwests announced decarbonization goals, including: pipeline development/opportunity identification, business case analysis, technical and environmental due diligence, and offtake/ investment agreement negotiation
  • Collaborate with Southwests conventional fuel supply and fuel operations Teams to ensure sustainable fuel opportunities can be integrated with petroleum pipelines, storage and logistics (rail, trucks, waterborne) or create supply chains where none exist
  • Provide SAF and SAF-related technical and subject matter expertise and guidance both internally and externally
  • Advise senior leaders on rapidly evolving sustainable fuels landscape to strategically position Southwest
  • Engage in and connect the Company to the latest SAF developments and trends, including representing Southwest at industry events and other platforms
  • Identify and pursue strategic partnerships to enhance scale and impact of SAF initiatives
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant airlines, associations, and government stakeholders to influence the development of aligned local, regional, and national policies consistent with Southwests strategy
  • Serve as a company champion of sustainable aviation fuels contribution to Southwests broader environmental sustainability strategy
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee&39;s Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of current state of SAF: Technical (feedstock/pathways, logistics, opportunities/constraints), Commercial (current and future players, vertical value chain, competitor activities), Policy (Current and proposed legislation, RINs, LCFS)
  • Knowledge of environmental life cycle assessment, including familiarity with the GREET model
  • Basic knowledge of petroleum industry; specifically jet fuel and/or refined products and logistics
  • Skilled in understanding and explaining technical concepts in a manner tailored to the audience
  • Skilled in developing meaningful relationships with colleagues and industry peers
  • Ability to assume a high level of responsibility, working independently and collaboratively within a large organization
  • Ability to balance a wide range of competing assignments and deliver high-quality results occasionally within very tight timeframes
  • Ability to properly manage highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate insights from technical reports, publications, and presentations in a structured, digestible, and concise manner
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering, Finance/Accounting or related field

Experience
  • Expert level experience, expansive and far reaching knowledge in:
    • Renewable fuels/energy transition and/or experience in aviation fuels, aviation fuels supply chain (renewable or conventional)

Licensing/Certification
  • N/A

Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from limited space work station/desk/office area for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be willing to travel (<15) for industry events, conferences, meetings with external parties, etc.< li>
