MISSION:
To straighten metal castings to meet dimensional tolerances and customer specifications. Straightens both large and small parts.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Straightening
Objective: to mechanically correct non-conforming dimensions that require checking per specifications.
Typical Activities:
A. Measures and inspects castings to verify appropriate tolerances and identify discrepant tolerances; checks tech cards and CMM dimensional reports; may prestraighten casting prior to dimensional check.
B. Determines the most effective method of making straightening repairs to castings.
C. Straightens castings using manual tools, profile templates and power presses; preheats castings before placing in press; rounds parts with power or manual tools.
D. Straightens castings using the hot straightening process; fixtures parts for heat treat (TBO only)
E. Creates custom press blocks and tools as needed.
F. Works closely with Dimensional Inspectors and Engineering personnel to resolve dimensional problems.
2. Casting Acceptance.
Objective: to determine dimensional acceptability to tolerances.
Typical Activities:
A. Performs in-process dimensional checks.
B. Performs final dimensional checks using inspection fixtures, templates, gauges, micrometers, calipers and other measuring devices.
C. Visually inspects castings for discontinuity
3. Completes logs, process router forms, and records.
4.Safety
Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.
Typical Activities:
A. Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
B. Safely operates all equipment and tools.
C. Identifies and reports safety problems.
5. Performs other tasks as directed.
TRAINING:
1. Training is provided on the job.
2. Completion of PCC&39;s Forklift Driving Safety Certification Training may be required.
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Casting straightening skills or closely related metal straightening/fabricating skills, is preferred. OR An equivalent amount of classroom training and work experience.
2. Ability to read, interpret, and follow specifications on Tech Cards, blueprints, and drawings.
3. Ability to read dimensional tools.
4. Ability to work independently and solve problems.
5. Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing fifty to eighty pounds and occasionally up to one hundred pounds.
6. Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes and other elements for extended periods of time.
MAJOR PLANT DIFFERENCES:
1. LSBO - requires Straightner to obtain Dimensional Inspection Certification after 6 months on the job.
