Boeing is seeking a Tool and Die/Deep Draw to join our team in Portland, OR.

Employees in this position plan, layout, fabricate, make, assemble, maintain and repair tools; rebuild and repair hydraulic and vacuum fixtures. This job involves coordinated tolerances in more than one working plane and/or involving obtuse, acute or right-angle construction.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plan, layout, fabricate, make, assemble, maintain and repair tools, dies, and molds.

  • The job involves coordinated tolerances in more than one working plane and/or involving obtuse, acute or right-angle construction; with dies such as push-through, blanking, piercing, cut-off, forming, joggle, deep, and compound dies.

  • Perform all functions of tool fabrication, rework and repair, as required.

  • Work assignment is determined by schedule date on order, tool availability or lead/supervisor.

  • Develop plans for accomplishing work in fabrication, maintenance and repair of tools, as required.

  • Initiate planning or engineering change requests, as required.

  • Determine sequence of and coordinate tool fabrication work.

  • Troubleshoot problems and develop plans to resolve production issues.

  • Obtain appropriate tool drawings, specification documents and/or sketches, as required, using computing systems (e.g., Bold/Web, Online Planning system, CATIA) if drawings, sketches and/or documents are not with work order.

  • Coordinate planning or engineering change requests and routine maintenance work with other internal support groups.

  • Verify current tool certification dates.

  • Perform Standing Tool Order (STO) Production Request, by repairing or replacing non-key features on tools (e.g., missing pins, bolts, other minor items).

  • Swage tubes per drawing and connect to associated components (e.g., pumps, gauges) and check for leaks, as required.

  • Use conventional and (CNC) Computer Numerical Controlled mills, engine and CNC lathes, radial drill presses, (ID) and (OD) inside and outside diameter grinders and jig bore to shape material or prepare details.

  • Maintain records and status of orders in area and coordinate tooling information with other shifts, engineering, Quality Assurance (QA), management and other departments.

  • Perform tool tryout, as required.

  • Perform tool rework/repair, as required.

  • Submit completed jobs to Quality Assurance by assisting inspector to perform any necessary checks or measurements.

  • Stamp up rework tag on tool.

  • Maintain personal and tool certifications, as required.

  • Use eye, hearing, foot, hand, respirator and other personal protective equipment as required. Requires lifting, pushing, pulling up to 35 lbs.

  • Frequent walking, reaching, handling, grasping and turning/twisting.

  • Climbing stairs and working from ladders/lifts as required.

  • Occasional use of low impacts tools, stooping, kneeling, crouching and squatting.

  • Exposure to noise and moving parts.

  • Exposure to aluminum, titanium, magnesium, steel, exotic alloys, plastics, tungsten carbide, cobalt, sawdust, composites, milled fiber, fiberglass and other airborne contaminants.

  • Exposure to solvents, resins, lubricants, cutting coolants and fluids.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3 + years in repairing, maintaining, construction and/or the inspection of tools, dies, jigs, powerfeed, etc.

  • 3 + years of CAD/CAM programming experience (using an offline programming system such as UniGraphics, CATIA, MasterCam etc.)

  • Experience in reading blueprints with understanding of Dimensioning and Tolerancing

  • 3+ years setting up and operating Manual and CNC Machines

This position is expected to be 100 onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Relocation:

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Shift:

This is a 2nd shift position.

This is an hourly position governed by the IAM Collective Bargaining agreement.

Pay rates are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

 

Summary pay range: $26.00/hour - $48.98/hour
