Tooling & Die Maker II (Full Time)

Responsible for assisting the Supervisor and Lead in the fabrication of high-quality tooling for the forming of aircraft parts following Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other
manufacturing instructions. Assists in meeting or exceeding planned production and delivery schedules while maximizing company resources to achieve company goals.
Essential Job Functions:
Fabricate and assemble form blocks, form dies, blank and pierce dies, progressive dies, press brake dies, stretch dies, and hydro form blocks according to engineering drawings and specifications.
Set up and operate machine tools such as saw, jig, die, lathe, manual and CNC (3 and 5 axis) mills, and grinders to machine part and verify conformance of tooled part to specifications.
Perform precision machining, grinding, and fitting operations to tight tolerances on materials like aluminum, steel, and stainless steel.
Perform routine maintenance tasks on tools and equipment.
Maintain accurate records of tooling activities and materials usage.
Assist production with critical structural repairs for non-conforming parts/assemblies following instructions from engineering dispositions.
Provide assistance when required during new product development, design, build and testing. This may periodically involve augmenting Experimental Flight Test Department in a variety of capacities in order to achieve critical program milestones.
Inspect fabricated tools for quality and accuracy.
Able to assist teammates on machine set-up and calibrations
Learn to troubleshoot and diagnose tooling issues.
Follow safety protocols and guidelines at all times.
Maintain departmental compliance with Piper QAM/QIM, AS9100, and FAA requirements.
Adhere to Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions
Assist with maintaining effective Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
Partner with senior teammates within career path to receive and share practical knowledge for proper training to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
Strong mechanical aptitude
Good manual dexterity and attention to detail.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Fabricate and assemble most complex/intricate form blocks, form dies, blank and pierce dies, progressive dies, press brake dies, stretch dies, and hydro form blocks according to engineering drawings and specifications.
Set up and operate machine tools such as saw, jig, die, lathe, manual and CNC (3 and 5 axis) mills, and grinders to machine part and verify conformance of tooled part to specifications
Heat-treat and harden tool details with different types of tooling metals such as A2, O1, and S7.
Collaborate with engineers and designers to develop and improve tool designs.
Troubleshoot and diagnose tooling issues, and implement corrective actions.
Inspect finished tools for quality and accuracy, and make necessary adjustments.
Assists as a technical liaison between other teammates and Piper’s Manufacturing Support Teams as well as vendors, equipment suppliers, etc. when appropriate.
Assists with developing continuous improvement efforts to enhance the team’s performance including schedule delivery performance, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, productivity improvement initiatives and cost reductions. Assists with data collection, review and report generation.

Export Control Compliance requirements (ITAR), therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22.C.F.R. is
preferred.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Related Tool and Die Experience Requirements:
o Tool and Die Maker I: ≤ 3 years of experience
o Tool and Die Maker II: 3 – 5 years of experience
o Senior Tool and Die Maker: ≥ 5 years of experience
o Demonstrated verifiable competency through assignment of tasks and duties directly related to the position, confirming knowledge, skills and abilities in lieu of experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to both office and plant environments. May be exposed to odors, chemical agents, dust, fumes, gases, sharp objects, hazardous or moving equipment, wet slippery floors, and extremes in temperature and humidity.
Interacts regularly with various staff and employees, and occasionally with vendors, suppliers, community members and regulatory agency representatives.
Travel and overtime are required when necessary.
