Role Introduction
Reports to: Legal Counsel
The Trainee Solicitor role is to provide support to the Group Legal & Compliance Department and gain hands-on experience in various areas of legal practice. The incumbent will have the opportunity to develop legal skills and knowledge by assisting with legal research and analysis, drafting, and preparing for and attending meetings with both internal and external stakeholders. This role is designed to give the incumbent a well-rounded understanding of the day-to-day operations of a fast-paced and interesting industry, and prepare the incumbent for a successful in-house career with Cathay.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop expertise in specific areas of law such as corporate, regulatory, commercial, litigation, employment law and personal data and privacy
- Assist with legal research and analysis, and drafting
- Prepare for and attend meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including commercial negotiations and settlement discussions, and court/tribunal hearings
- Maintain detailed records and documentation for assigned matters and projects
- Collaborate with the legal team to provide efficient and high-quality legal advice
- Attend training sessions and workshops to continuously expand legal knowledge and skills
Requirements
- Offers are conditional upon successful completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) course in Hong Kong
- Strong academic performance
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Attention to detail and meticulous approach to work
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently
- Enthusiasm for learning and the development of legal expertise
- Chinese (written and spoken) language skills are preferred but not essential
- Right to work in Hong Kong (eligible visa holders are also welcome, including via the Top Talent Pass Scheme (TTPS) and Immigration Arrangements for Non-Local Graduates (IANG))
