Monitor the manufacturing processes and operations and conduct inspections of a broad range of fabrications, subassemblies, assemblies, component parts, purchased material and tooling to assure compliance with customer and NG specifications and standards where procedures and techniques are normally established.
WORKING PROCEDURE:
THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.
In addition to the duties of the Inspector “C”, performs the following:
- Inspect and test components, assemblies, tooling, weldments and materials of various geometric configurations and processes as specified and randomly for compliance with established customer and NG specifications and standards where procedures and techniques are normally established. Identify and tag defective parts, material and incorrect process with appropriate inspection documentation.
- Setup and use measuring equipment including surface plates, optical tooling and coordinate measuring machines where procedures and techniques are normally established. Apply analytical evaluation methods and calculations involving triangulation, compound angles, etc., as necessary throughout the inspection cycle. Serialize and maintain a log for parts, assemblies, tooling, etc.
- Perform mechanical and electrical functional acceptance tests on purchased and manufactured parts and material such as Brinell & Rockwell hardness, non-destructive, spring, etc Review and verify that incoming purchase orders, parts, materials and related documentation received are in compliance with established specifications and standards.
- Verify that inspection instruments such as micrometers, fixture gauges and thread gauges, etc., are within the designated calibration period prior to use.
- Perform similar or lower classified work as required.
DIRECTION OF OTHERS:
Advise shop personnel in proper procedures with regard to quality problems. Provide guidance to lower classified inspectors.
DIRECTION RECEIVED:
Receives work assignments from supervisor and accomplishes work assignments essentially on own initiative. May receive assistance and guidance from higher classified inspectors.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
High school graduate and courses in Engineering Drawing, Metrology, Physics and Mathematics through Trigonometry or the equivalent.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
At least two years experience as an Inspector or the equivalent related experience including machining, assembly, nondestructive testing and welding. Prefer familiarity with the division’s products, manufacturing methods and procedures. Must read and understand drawings using the geometric tolerancing and dimensioning system.
This is a Union represented position.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma/GED
- Minimum 3 years’ work experience in a receiving inspection or mechanical inspection role.
- Extensive knowledge, understanding, and application of engineering drawings/blueprints, GD&T, parts list, and material specs (Mil-spec, ASTM, AMS etc.)
- Ability and experience using various handheld (manual and auto) inspection tools.
- Extensive knowledge of quality processes, problem-solving, and writing nonconforming parts.
- Ability to complete basic shop math equations and problem-solving.
- Must have fluent reading and writing in English.
- US citizenship required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of CMM setup and/or Faro arm setup and operation.
- Existing knowledge of SAP
- Knowledge of verifying chemical and mechanical properties of the materials heat report.
