Job Description:

We are seeking for the experienced full-time Structure Shop Metal Fabricator/Parts Painter to join our manufacturing and commercial operations team in Havelock, NC. The position requires technical expertise in structure shop manufacturing machinery, tooling and hand tool operations, and parts painting, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical skills, a commitment to quality, and a focus on safety.  

Manufacturing Shop Duties:

  • Set up and operate press brake, shear, grinder, bandsaw machines to perform sheet metal bending and forming operations according to engineering drawings and specifications
  • Select, position, and align dies, punches, and tooling in the machine to achieve desired bends and shapes
  • Adjust machine settings, including ram stroke, back gauge positions, and pressure settings, to ensure accurate bends and high-quality output
  • Select appropriate metal materials and equipment based on project specifications.
  • Cut, shape, and form metal materials using tools such as shears, saws, punches, and drills.
  • Operate manual and automated machinery to assemble and fabricate metal components.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure finished products meet the required standards and specifications.
  • Conduct test runs and inspect sample workpieces to verify conformance to specifications, making necessary adjustments to tooling or machine settings
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and production schedules to determine job requirements and sequence of operations
  • Maintain and perform routine maintenance on press brake, press brake, shear, grinder, bandsaw machines, ensuring they are in good working condition
  • Monitor machine operations and troubleshoot issues to prevent downtime and ensure smooth production flow
  • Collaborate with other team members and departments to improve production processes and achieve company goals
  • Take the initiative to drive process solutions through feedback and communication with manufacturing and engineering personnel
  • Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in metal fabrication techniques and technologies
  • Prepares surface for painting, makes necessary patterns, performs layout and applies prescribed primers, paints and finishes
  • Clean, sand, mask, and buff aircraft and/or aircraft parts for paint with supervision.
  • Mix, apply, and smooth cosmetic fillers with supervision.
  • May assist with painting parts with supervision.
  • Demonstrate consistent ability to perform tasks with limited errors or rework.
  • Properly use PPE as required, to include respirator, and PPE for hazardous materials.
Job Requirements:
  • 4+ years of experience in a parts manufacturing environment preferred
  • Strong understanding of press brake, shear, grinder, bandsaw operations, tooling setup, and machine adjustments
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, step files and technical specifications
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments, such as calipers, micrometers, and protractors
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies and procedures
  • Measuring using scales, precision calipers, micrometers, and other measuring equipment.
  • Inspect parts for accuracy.  

 Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and maneuver 50 pounds independently. 
  • Must be able to pass fit for work physical and/or drug test as required.
  • Must be able to work in areas that require awkward posturing, bending, kneeling, squatting, to include working overhead.
  • Must be able to work at height in the hangar and on the flightline.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift materials and tooling as required
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for handling small components and tools.
  • If required must be able to perform confined space activities.
  • Travel may be required.
