General Job Summary:

The Aviation Ground School Instructor is responsible for conducting ground training, overseeing student activities and other duties as assigned by the Director of Aviation Program / Chief Flight Instructor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Constant (67-100% of the time)
    • Effectively organize, teach, and evaluate student performance and progress in assigned course offerings in accordance with established syllabi. Assignments may include various delivery formats, methods, work schedules and locations.
    • Evaluate and record student performance and progress according to College and division guidelines and FAA standards.
    • Maintain current course syllabi and provide student guides for all courses taught in accordance with College and FAA standards.
  • Frequently (34-66% of the time)
    • Attend and serve on assigned and voluntary program and College committees.
    • Assist with lab sites for student practical experiences and monitor progress.
    • Assist with the recruitment and orientation of students.
  • Occasionally (10-33% of the time)
    • Regularly engage in professional development activities and keep current with developing trends and ideas in the profession.
    • Assist in the process of requesting and maintaining instructional equipment and supplies for classrooms/laboratories, including aircraft.
    • Assist the supervisor in the budgeting process.
    • Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of communication within the College and community.
    • Encourage and foster student participation in professional organizations, College activities, and community activities.
    • Assist with community activities and public relations activities.
    • Participate in Advisory Committee meetings.
Job Requirements:

  • Be a creative, energetic, and self-motivated individual with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • FAA Advanced Ground Instructor, Instrument (AGII) certification
  • FAA Part 107 Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems certification
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution

Special Demands:

Position involves sitting or standing most of the time in an office or classroom/laboratory setting.

  • Constantly (67-100%)
    • Reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions and viewing various types of close visual work.
  • Frequent (34-66%)
    • Stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, and carrying.
    • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and 10 pounds of force frequently.
  • May be required to travel utilizing personal vehicle.
  • Must have valid driver’s license, good driving record and provide proof of insurance.

Preferred Additional Requirements:

  • FAA Certified Flight Instructor certificate with Instrument and Multi-Engine ratings
  • Project management training and/or experience

Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
