Job Description:

The Director of Flight Standards & Training reports to the Director of Operations to ensure that all company flight policies and procedures are standardized in accordance with applicable CFRs, and OpSpecs and that pilots are trained in accordance with the provisions of the FAA-approved Flight Operations Training Manual (FOTM).  

As a member of the team that introduces Pilots to our Safe, Friendly, and Reliable culture, the Director of Flight Standards & Training influences and contributes to the development of a strong Flight Operations crew, ensures consistent standards are communicated to Pilots at hire, and throughout their career with us, and identifies individual or group development needs to continuously improve training and performance within Flight Operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES 

  • Creation, maintenance, administration, and continual improvement revising company curriculum in accordance with applicable 14 CFR Part 135 sub-part H regulatory requirements, Company standards, and current industry best practices. 
  • Creation, review, and revision of a Flight Standards Manual for each aircraft on the company’s certificate.
  • Creation, review, and revision of the Flight Operations Training Manual (FOTM) to include, but not limited to, curriculum development and delivery, review, and revision.
  • Develop an advanced qualification program and collect data for further implementation and development.
  • Supervise, select, train, and continually evaluate ground and flight instructor personnel.
  • Coordinate with the Flight Operations LMS manager for class training content and oversee all classroom training delivery and professionalism. 
  • Coordinate with the Chief Pilot and Director of Operations to ensure standardization of the pilot training program contents in support of the General Operations Manual (GOM) and other derivative flight operations manuals and documentation.
  • Communicate with the Chief Pilot, Assistant Chief Pilot, and Lead Pilots regarding qualification and/or de-qualification of pilots for expired and/or unsatisfactory training events. 
  • Responsible for the creation, administration, and revision of the Initial New Hire and recurrent Ground Training Schedules, including identifying and scheduling/coordinating adequate training facilities.
  • Maintain qualification for and availability to teach general subjects and aircraft systems ground schools and delegate teaching of these courses and other corporate training to other company instructors as needed.
  • Develop and periodically evaluate pilot flight training curriculum as needed, to ensure continued improvement of the training program.
  • Incorporate SMS and/or SRM outputs into the pilot ground and flight training curriculum as appropriate to ensure continual improvement.
  • Enforce departmental safety objectives, which support company goals through close coordination with the Company Safety Department.
  • Liaise as required with the FAA Certificate Management Office to ensure continual compliance of the Company pilot training program with the applicable provisions of 14 CFR Part 135 sub-part H.
  • Serve as a company flight instructor and check airman as required to meet operational training requirements, and to maintain a presence throughout the company’s network for monitoring compliance with company policies and standards

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS 

  • Directly oversees company ground and flight instructors and check airmen. 

KEY WORK RELATIONSHIPS

  • This position works closely with the Director of Operations, Chief Pilot, Assistant Chief Pilot, LMS Manager, and Pilot Records Clerk.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 
  • Commercial Pilot Certificate and Instrument Rating
  • Part 135 or 121 operating experience
