JOB TITLE

Advanced Flight Instructor FULL TIME HOURLY POSITION

POSITION PURPOSE
Conducts Part 61 or 141 training for initial CFI applicants in accordance with all appropriate regulations, LIFT syllabi, policies and procedures. Conducts and logs Flight Simulation Training Device (FSTD), aircraft, and briefing lessons. Conducts observation and mentorship of initial flight instructor applicants. Prepares initial CFI applicants for End of Course evaluation for flight and oral examination.  May conduct training in any course offered at LIFT academy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Conducts training, observations and mentorship of initial CFI applicants.
  • May also instruct at any course at LIFT academy.
  • Reports on progress to the chief flight instructor or CFI lead instructor.
  • Conducts initial CFI flight training.
  • Conducts small group breakout sessions for oral preparation.
  • Conducts FSTD, Aircraft, and briefing lessons in accordance with LIFT TCOs.
  • Ensures that course standards, training requirements, and objectives are met by all assigned students as required by the Training Course Outline.
  • Ensures standardization of students and instructors is met by reporting if LIFT procedures are not followed.
  • Evaluates struggling students and provides feedback on plans for improvement.
  • May assist in development of curriculum, lesson plans and video presentations.
  • Reports on student progress and accurately enters all appropriate records.
  • Attends and conducts meetings as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • If requested, may attend Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) and conduct spin training in company DA20.
  • Time in position requirement as determined by bid.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to perform this job.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE.

  • FAA Certified Flight Instructor, Airplane Single Engine Land.
  • FAA Certified Flight Instructor, Instrument Airplane.
  • Must hold a current FAA Medical Certificate or at least basic medical.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to apply effective instructional technique in flight.
  • Computer skills are required.
  • Aircraft piloting skills, including familiarity with and ability to perform required flight maneuvers and procedures.
  • Knowledge of appropriate Federal Aviation Regulations and related administrative and operational procedures and requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and objective in applying grading standards.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to pass a knowledge test and flight proficiency check with the chief or assistant chief flight instructor prior to beginning this role.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • MEI is preferred but not required.
  • AGI is preferred but not required
  • 700 total flight hours or more.
  • G1000 experience
  • Experience as a CFI under 141
  • Experience as a flight instructor to meet FAR 61.195h.  (2 years as a CFI plus 200 hours dual given)

REGULATORY

  • Must be able to pass an initial and on-going drug and alcohol testing program
  • Must pass a Federal Background check.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

REASONING/PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

DECISION MAKING

Makes day to day decisions used to support strategic direction.  Decisions often require some thought and are somewhat structured.  Decisions tend to be short term and usually moderate cost.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Able to lift up to 25 pounds up to 35 of the time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • 40 hour on site work week however potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in fast-paced and noisy environment while exercising sound judgement at all times.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to travel up to 15 of the time, including overnight and weekend travel.  May travel to other LIFT bases to conduct training.
