Boeing Defence United Kingdom (BDUK) is looking for Technical Publication Focal to support new business opportunities and existing product platforms, principally within the Rotary Wing Enterprise (RWE) Group.

BDUK is a subsidiary of the Boeing Company and currently employs over 1,400 people in the UK. We are responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK defence customers including new capabilities like the E-7 AEW&C and the P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, Autonomous Systems, C4ISR Services, Support for the Chinook & Apache Fleets, Logistic Information Services and Training Services and are very much in a growth phase.

The BDUK Engineering function operates a matrix organisation consisting of engineering departments that deliver technical skills, expertise and products into our programmes. This role will be in the Product Support Engineering Department. The Department consists of the following technical areas:

  • Reliability Centred Maintenance Analysis.
  • Reliability and Maintainability.
  • Logistic Support Analysis.
  • Engineering Data Exploitation (DE).
  • Obsolescence Management.
  • Technical Publications.
  • Integrated Logistic Support Engineering.

As the RWE Technical Publications Focal, you will call upon your experience to support the Technical Publications Lead to ensure First Time Quality is applied to all publication reviews and updates, and they align with quality management system requirements. The role will encompass the preparation of artefacts in support of proposal and bid phases through to execution of new business development opportunities. You will collaborate with the responsible BDUK Support Engineering Manager whilst being technically supported by your Technical Publications Lead and other specialists within the department.

In your role, you shall:

  • Work in a team and carry out the execution of contracted Technical Publications work.
  • Research subject matter as appropriate to build and verify accurate and usable content with a focus on first time quality.
  • Collaborating with other Engineering subject areas and the other Senior Stakeholders, to ensure consistency of working methods and activities across all projects.
  • Complete contract requirements with a Safety and First Time Quality mind-set working within an integrated team environment.
  • Coordinate, monitor, establish Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and report status of Technical Publication activities.
  • In addition to your technical work scope, there is an expectation that the post will support wider organisational objectives in relation to; promoting a Safety Culture, promoting and enabling a diverse and inclusive culture, mentoring and coaching, STEM outreach and a number of focus projects to support the growth of the company and its employees.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

The preferred candidate will have most of the following, with some considered essential:

  • Previous experience in an aviation technical publications environment.
  • Essential to be able to acquire UK SC security clearance.
  • Conversant with ASD S1000D and or AVP70.
  • Experience of working with Simplified Technical English.
  • A clear communicator with a can-do attitude who has the drive, dedication and passion to continuously improve the quality of service.
  • Ideally, have prior experience in aviation maintenance or engineering environment but this is not essential.
  • Proven track record to drive first time quality.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, in particular MS Word, and Adobe Acrobat XI Pro.
  • Engineering Degree qualified, minimum Technical Education HNC/HND and or received formal training in Support Engineering principles.
