Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesu202F

As a Technical Writer you will work independently to develop, write, and edit material for reports, maintenance manuals, user manuals, instructor operator handbooks, training documentation, and related technical documentation.

Primary responsibilities of the Technical Writer are as follows:

  • Assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides and manuals and technical publications

  • Understand basic concepts (to include basic grammar concepts), responsible for writing technical content for various types of documents

  • Maintain a current internal documentation library

  • Use multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, Interleaf Quicksilver and Adobe Framemaker

  • Work with engineers to produce quality documentation and training materials

  • Work on all phases of documentation

  • Understand basic concepts and write technical content for various types of documents for a program/project of similar complexity

  • Prepare reports, responses, and briefings targeted to a wide range of audiences

  • Coordinate layout and design of documents

  • Produce technical documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation utilized by the end-user community of DoD electronic equipment and systems

  • Work with engineers and other technical personnel to develop and verify technical content.

  • Provide editing and formatting support of Engineering documentation.

  • Participate in peer reviews of documentation developed by colleagues.u202F

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience (Technical or Professional Writing, English, or Communications)

  • Experience in technical editing and writing and have strong writing and editing skills, including ability to manipulate usage and grammar.

  • Experienced in querying authors for clarity and compliance purposes and must be skilled in Microsoft Word, MS excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance that has been granted or renewed in the last 5 years.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Program Access prior to the start of employment.

  • Flexibility to support occasional overtime, weekend work, shift work and site travel (CONUS)

  • Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • History of collaboration in small teams with different organizations.

  • Experienced with configuration management, electrical and mechanical knowledge.

  • Ability to identify and possibly work around limited engineering data and understand hardware drawings..

  • Technical Writing experience within the aerospace and defense industry

  • Working knowledge of PTC Arbortext Editor, Adobe Illustrator and CorelDraw

Security Responsibilities

Must complyu202Fwith all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures.u202F Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval.u202F All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.

  • Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Salary Range: $77,000 to $85,500

Please note: The actual compensation rate is subject to the evaluation of the following factors (but not limited to): the candidates work experience, qualifications, skills, internal equity, and market.
