Job Description:

The Aviation Technical Writer III develops, writes, and edits material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.

  • receives assignment from supervisor, observes production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail.

  • interviews production and engineering personnel and reads journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods,

  • reviews manufacturers and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.

  • studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail,

  • organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology;

  • reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.

  • maintain records and files of work and revisions, select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material;

  • assist in laying out material for publication,

  • duplication and distribution of material,

  • edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or plant personnel.

Minimum Requirements

  • Shall have at least Five (5) years aviation maintenance experience, Five (5) years rotary wing aircraft experience, and Two (2) years on the assigned Mission Design Series MDS (UH60, AH64, and/or CH47). 

  • All experience must be within the Ten (10) most recent years.

  • Must have basic knowledge of aircraft structures.

  • Must have a working knowledge of technical publications and the ability to operate a computer to enter evaluation data.

  • Must be willing to travel to customer supported sites for work.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization**NAC-I T1 Public Trust.  Note:  US Citizenship is required for a facility credentials/authorization at the work location.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Possess good communication skills; be adaptable, diversified and

  • Must have skill in reading, applying and interpreting technical data.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to ability to sit for extended periods, occasionally stand and walk, use hands to operate a keyboard and mouse, reach for items on a desk, and have good vision to view a computer screen

  • Must be able to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

  • May work in Aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.

  • May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.

  • May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts.
