Aurora Flight Sciences, a Boeing subsidiary, is seeking a Energy Storage Group Lead to contribute to the design and development of next generation electric and hybrid-electric power systems for manned and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The Electrical Power Systems Division was created to analyze, design, integrate and test high voltage electrical power systems. High voltage systems are those in excess of 28VDC. These systems are typically used for air vehicle propulsive power.
Aurora Flight Sciences, a Boeing subsidiary, is seeking a Energy Storage Group Lead to contribute to the design and development of next generation electric and hybrid-electric power systems for manned and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) including efficient high performance vertical take-off and landing aircraft, high-altitude and long-endurance (HALE) UAVs, and megawatt-scale electrified propulsion aircraft to name a few.
The Group Lead position will be the engineering discipline functional lead for a team of 10-15 or more engineers with background in mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineers involved in the design and development of advanced battery systems with lead responsibility for:
· developing and disseminating standard practices of design, development, and validation within the discipline.
· collaborating with the Electric Power Systems Division Manager on the strategic roadmap for hiring, facilities, and technology.
· collaborating with the Project Managers and Integrated Product Team (IPT) leads to successfully support funded aircraft and subsystem projects.
· supporting and managing the group staff including all engineering overhead functions (e.g. performance reviews).
· providing expert advice and review as a non-advocate reviewer.
· supporting integration and lessons learned across the Boeing enterprise.
As part of a highly collaborative environment you will work independently and on a multi-disciplinary team. As such, candidates must have excellent communication and organizational skills and the desire to take on new tasks and develop new skills.
Education: Bachelor’s Engineering Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or other relevant discipline
Experience: 8 (+) years of relevant industry experience or fewer years with an advanced engineering degree.
Engineering background must include:
onew product development through commercial introduction.
ohigh voltage (multi-cell) battery systems.
Professional experience leading the engineering efforts of design, analysis, and testing of lithium-based high voltage battery systems including modules, packs, and battery management systems through to new product commercial introduction.
Academic/professional experience with some or all of the following:
-Modeling of battery performance, life, and/or safety.
-Mechanical design of battery systems.
-Thermal design of battery systems for passive, forced air, and/or liquid cooling.
-Electrical design of cell, module, and pack level interconnections.
-Safety design of battery systems.
U.S. Person status (U.S. Citizen or a Permanent Resident/Green Card Holder).
Masters or Ph.D. Engineering Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or a relevant discipline.
Engineering industry background may include:
-Transportation or stationary advanced energy storage applications
