Job Description:
We are currently seeking an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) pilot and technician to support our new aerial services program. This is a full-time position. ULC's Aerial Services division is growing and this role will be essential helping establish ULC as a leader deploying specialized UAV technology for existing utility clients and beyond. In order to ensure our equipment is reliable and safe, we test it extensively in controlled environments before allowing it to be used in for customer work. Our pilots are highly qualified and trained to conduct work safely for our utility customers.
 
The chosen candidate will serve as UAV pilot and technician to support our growing program by taking training courses, working with our existing pilots and learning to maintain our purpose built UAV systems. This position requires regular travel and working remotely from the field. Because this is a new and growing business for ULC, the ideal candidate should have other useful experience that may be utilized between UAV assignments. Some examples of relevant experience may include but are not limited to: mechanical, electrical or civil engineering, construction, agriculture, videography or land surveying. Although ULC Robotics is based out of Long Island, NY, the position will require travel within the northeastern US, but other potential locations.
Job Requirements:
  • Must be able to travel 50% (i.e. 2-weeks per month) and work effectively from the remote locations.
  • Minimum Education- HS Diploma or equivalent. Some college preferable.
  • Thorough understanding of FAA rules and regulations
  • Minimum Sport Aircraft License or Remote Pilot License
  • Minimum 1 year relevant experience operating commercial UAV systems including but not limited to aircraft such as helicopters, fixed-wing, multi-rotors, etc.
  • Must be able to remain calm and make difficult decisions when faced with mounting pressure
  • Strong understanding working in highly regulated environments; willingness to put safety first, and operate in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Must be hands on and mechanically and/or electrically inclined; troubleshooting experience a major plus.
  • Valid NY Driver's License
  • Strong team working skills and willingness to learn. 
  • A positive, team-oriented, and proactive attitude is essential
  • Must have exemplary verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter and be capable of managing a constantly changing, varied task load with minimal supervision.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, e-mail, internet)Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs.
The ideal candidate has:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline
  • Additional Pilot License Certifications
  • Has at least 3 years operating commercial UAV's
  • Has knowledge of filing the necessary paperwork to fly commercial UAV missions and maintaining all required documentation as regulated by the FAA.
  • Has experience with GIS systems and data processing.
  • Has extensive hands on experience troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems.
  • Balance a constantly changing work load with a weekly set of required maintenance tasks
  • Any experience with gas or electric utilities or other energy related industries is a plus
