The MIA Porter is a part-time position based at the Miami International Airport (MIA), and the individual must be local to this work location. This role oversees baggage operations at the terminal, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as airlines procedures and company policies. The Porter will report directly to the Above Wing Duty Manager.
- Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee all baggage operations within the terminal.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental regulations, airline standard operating procedures, and customer and company policies.
- Manage the entire baggage processing operation, from receiving incoming baggage to ensuring proper tagging, sorting, and routing to the appropriate airfield for transport.
- Monitor luggage storage areas to optimize space and ensure proper storage of customer baggage.
- Supervise baggage handlers, ensuring they are properly trained, qualified, and comply with company attendance, performance evaluation, and disciplinary procedures.
- Assist passengers with luggage at the airline check-in desk.
- Manage luggage drop-off and pick-up at aircraft gates for both domestic and international flights.
- Place baggage on carousels for loading onto aircraft.
- Sort and load baggage onto carts for transportation to and from aircraft.
- Unload baggage from aircraft and load onto flight carts or baggage carts for transport to baggage claim area.
- Ensure baggage carts and baggage claim areas are kept clean and sanitary.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Perform any additional tasks as assigned to support the operation.
- Qualification Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
- Must be able to pass all pre-employment testing to include drug testing and a physical.
- Ability to safely lift up to 70 lbs.
- Must maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Must be able and flexible to work variables shifts including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to walk long distances, be on your feet for extended periods of time, and work on your feet in uncomfortable situations.
- Proven dependability and positive attitude.
- Position will have to wear a uniform.
- It can be a busy and sometimes stressful environment.
