Job Description:

 This position requires a strong knowledge of aircraft avionics and  electrical systems. The job includes varying amounts of parts replacement or repair,  system installation, and system troubleshooting. Job duties will vary each day and will  be designated by the General Manager or Lead in charge of the project.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • This shall include, but not be limited to items such as removal and installation of  panels, components and interiors, as well as repair work on avionics installations. Troubleshoots, repairs, test, removes and replaces avionics and instrument wiring  and systems installed in various airframes using hand tools, test equipment,  technical documents, and technical reference materials. Orders necessary parts to  complete the job. 
  • Inspection and evaluation of the aircraft and components when designated.
  • Enters description of work completed on the work order and properly documents  removal and installation of aircraft parts and components according to approved  data and company approved procedures. 
  • Accompanies flight crews to perform in-flight troubleshooting and adjustments and  performs preflight evaluations of avionics and instrument systems
  • Advise department management of any issues, delays, and/or schedule  interruptions. 
  • Aircraft movement and assistance in hangar stack when required.
  • Work either independently or within a team on projects as dictated by the scope of  the project and management. 
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
  • Perform Airframe/Powerplant maintenance and inspections as required in addition  to Avionics 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Must possess extensive knowledge of aircraft avionics, basic electricity, electronic  instruments, and electrical systems. 
  • Must be proficient on the operation of various types of aviation ground equipment.
  • Must be familiar with aviation, electrical, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Must be able to read, comprehend, and understand avionics equipment technical  manuals, electrical schematics, engineering drawings, operating handbooks, associated performance data, manufacturers publications, and other associated  aircraft data including but not limited to supplemental type certificates (STC’s).
  • Must be proficient in; avionics system and component troubleshooting, avionics  system and component installation and repair, and soldering and wire repair. 
  • Must be able to utilize a wide range of test equipment, including multimeters,  oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, etc.
  • Must have a basic understanding of FAA standards 14 CFR Part 43, 91, 135, 125,  and 145.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Lift at least 50 lbs. 
  • Routine walking, bending, and squatting or sitting in and around the aircraft and  hangar facilities. 
  • Routine and/or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
  • Occasional work in confined spaces and at heights above four feet.
  • Most of the work will be accomplished in a hangar with occasional requirements to  work outside.
Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Ability to obtain FCC licensing, FAA Repairman Certificate, AET certification,  and/or NCATT. 
  • Minimum eight year’s transport-category jet aircraft-related experience or have  demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform all job tasks.
  • Extensive knowledge of all aircraft avionic and electrical systems functions and  interactions. 
  • Thorough working knowledge of all current FAA regulations, IPM and ATA codes. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 2 – 5 years’ experience on business jets. 
  • Airframe and Powerplant license, FCC license, or AET certification. 2 or 4-year degree in avionics, aviation maintenance management or aviation tech 
  • Advanced/specialized avionics training.
  • Prior project management experience.
