JSfirm Member Press: Women in Aviation, International Congratulates the WASP on their Congressional Medals
Women in Aviation, International (WAI) joins the many other groups and organizations in congratulating the WASP for their selfless and courageous work on behalf of the United States during World War II.
“We have long known what many citizens are just now learning for the first time – that this intrepid group of women pilots made an invaluable contribution to the war effort,” said Women in Aviation, International President Dr. Peggy Chabrian. “We are delighted that their hard work and many sacrifices will be honored on March 10 .”
At WAI’s recently concluded annual Conference in Orlando, WASP Bernice (“Bee”) Haydu spoke at the closing banquet and said, “Women in Aviation is carrying on our name, and they have done so much for us.” It was at this banquet that Loral Blinde, Senior Vice President Human Resources at AirTran Airways pledged to give any WASP who wanted to come to Washington, DC for the ceremony two airplane tickets, one for the WASP and one for a companion.
Added Dr. Chabrian, "The WASP are an inspiration to our members, but especially to our military aviators. They know the WASP opened doors for them and made the opportunities they enjoy today possible. For many of our members, meeting a WASP and being photographed with her is a highlight of our annual Conference.”
