California Shock Trauma Air Rescue (CALSTAR) is a nonprofit regional air ambulance service. Our mission is to save lives, reduce disability and speed recovery for victims of trauma and illness. CALSTAR has an immediate opening for a full time EMS Pilot (Santa Maria, CA), and also for a full time EMS Pilot (Ukiah, CA).
The EMS Pilot is the Pilot-in-command of the aircraft and reports directly to the Lead Pilot and is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of each flight assignment and is authorized by CALSTAR to exercise operational control for each flight he/she is assigned to.
In order to be considered as a CALSTAR helicopter line pilot, a person must have the following qualifications:
- Commercial Pilot Rotorcraft-Helicopter
- Instrument Rating
- 3,000 hours total helicopter flight time as PIC
- 1,500 hours turbine helicopter time
- 150 hours Night
Job duties:
1. Pilot in Command will determine that on-board CALSTAR personnel are legally licensed, adequately rested and in proper dress.
2. Plans flight assignments and obtains briefing information regarding purpose of the flight, weather, operating procedures and special instructions.
3. Prepares or supervises preparation of flight plan considering such factors as altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, cruise control data, airport facilities and navigational aids.
4. Supervises crewmembers to ensure proper planning and flight preparation.
Specific requirements:
- Other considerations are previous EMS, mountain, IFR, remote locations and NVG experience, multi-engine, turbine, etc.
- Relocation to Santa Maria or commutable distance is essential
- Successful candidate must be able to pass a drug test

CALSTAR has an immediate opening for a FULL TIME FLIGHT NURSE in Northern CA.
The Position:
The flight nurse is a professional registered nurse who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of critically ill and injured adults and children. FN reports to the Chief Flight Nurse. As a member of the flight team, contributes to a cooperative working relationship with the other members of the team, toward the end of providing quality patient care.
Qualified Candidates must have:
- At least THREE years recent experience in Critical Care, Trauma, Emergency and/or transport nursing or THREE years experience as RN with a minimum of FIVE years experience in emergency medical services.
- Current CA RN license or eligible for licensure as an RN in the State of California
- BLC, ACLS, and PALS verifications.
- Must meet the weight standard as set by CALSTAR policy.

CALSTAR has an immediate opening for a full time BASE MECHANIC - Vacaville, CA
AIRCRAFT = BO105
LOCATION = Vacaville
A Base Mechanic is responsible for ensuring program aircraft are maintained to airworthiness standards prescribed by applicable regulations, airworthiness directives, company policies, and good practices.
Qualifications:
. Ensures aircraft is maintained in an airworthy condition.
. Ensures aircraft, ground support equipment, and work areas are maintained to company standards of cleanliness and appearance.
. Ensures all required maintenance manuals and documents are in order.
. Coordinates with Director of Maintenance (or designee) to ensure timely acquisition of parts and tooling.
. Ensures efficient scheduling of field maintenance.
. Ensures all maintenance records are accurate and in accordance with applicable FARs and company policies.
. Ensures company maintenance records are submitted to the Quality Assurance Department in a timely manner.
. Ensures program parts and supplies inventory is accurate and sufficient.
. Ensures accountability for all expendable items.
. Ensures all used core parts, unneeded new parts, and support equipment is returned to the proper departments in a timely manner.
. Attends monthly base staff meetings.
. Attends quarterly maintenance department meetings.
. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance (or designee).
Requirements:
. FAA Airframe and Power plant certificate as prescribed by FAR 65
. High school diploma or GED.
. Associates degree preferred.
. Must meet recent experience requirement of FAR 65.83.
. At least 2 years experience maintaining rotary wing aircraft, and turbine engines.
. Factory or equivalent training on the assigned make and model aircraft preferred.
. Must be knowledgeable of FARs, General Operations Manual, Safety Program, and assigned aircraft maintenance manuals.
. Maintain harmonious and cooperative relations with the program members, other company members, patients and guests.
. Maintains confidentiality of information deemed confidential.
. Communicates effectively with pilot and medical teams.
. Effective oral and written communication skills.
. Sound judgment and objectivity in decision-making.
. This position requires the ability to work days, nights, weekends, scheduled days off, overtime and to be on-call.
Work Environment:
The assigned work environment may include hospitals and/or airports. The expected environment includes outdoor operations in most all weather condition during all times of the day or night.
